Mindful Monday

How are you feeling today? This Mindful Monday we are asking you to take some time to reflect on how you are feeling. As we start another week of sheltering in place, Metro Theater Company staff has taken some time to notice the different ways that we are feeling: happy, tired, grateful, connected, hopeful, and more. We took those feelings and turned them into visual art pieces. We invite you to do the same or even share with us how you are feeling in one word. You can share your photos, comments, or videos of your creations on social media or email them to community@metroplays.org. Be sure to use #mtcwithyou when sharing on social media. We wish you a good start to the week!

I was inspired by the tulips that have provided a pop of color and joy during these difficult times. I wanted to depict the cycle that I, and so many others are experiencing: we find these moments of beauty, gratitude, and delight that are sometimes quickly forgotten and overshadowed by stress and worries, only to wake up and once again be grounded by the beauty around us.

Fantastic Cities lets you color cities from across the globe and then creates mandala patterns based on those cities. As someone who loves to travel, getting to at least color and draw beautiful places keeps me connected to the bigger world while still respecting St. Louis's necessary stay at home orders. These are coloring pages for Toronto: one actual image and one mandala based on that cityscape.

Instead of drawing something, I used paper that I had and tape to make a little collage. I'm feeling a little gray, a little tired, a little lost.

I’ve been feeling conflicted lately about experiencing joy. Sometimes it appears and everything feels “normal” for a moment and then the uncertainty and traumatic experiences of family members around me during this pandemic, crowd out the joy. Here is a photo that I took of my dog who really didn’t want to wear this party hat but I like it because it captures my attempts at celebrating lately! I try to stay grateful though for the bits of joy.
