World Read Aloud Day: Feb 3

LitWorld founded World Read Aloud Day in 2010 in celebration of the power of reading aloud to create community, to amplify new stories, and to advocate for literacy as a foundational human right. World Read Aloud Day has evolved into a global movement of millions of readers, writers, and listeners from communities all over the world coming together to honor the joy and power of reading and sharing stories, and continue expanding the definition and scope of global literacy.

At Metro Theater Company, one of our favorite books to read aloud is Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which you can see come to life this spring in our bilingual presentation of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show / La Oruga Muy Hambrienta Espectáculo! Everyone's favorite caterpillar will take the stage in a dazzling, critically acclaimed production – featuring a menagerie of more than 75 larger-than-life, magical puppets. The Very Hungry Caterpillar will be joined by friends from three other iconic Eric Carle picture books: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, 10 Little Rubber Ducks, and The Very Lonely Firefly.

To celebrate World Read Aloud Day, enjoy these two wonderful readings below of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Plus don’t miss LitWorld’s Instagram (@litworld) live event on Wednesday, February 3 at 9:30 am CST featuring Author Kwame Alexander speaking about his book, Becoming Muhammad Ali. (Also, be sure to check out our virtual field trip to experience And In This Corner: Cassius Clay, a play about the young Muhammad Ali!)
